𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴!
Let us look at trees around us, the Camel’s Foot Tree, the Spider Tree, the Green Ebony, the Oleander, the Rhododendron, the Cotton tree…, They are all blooming!
When spring comes, Hong Kong is full of flowers. Who said Hong Kong is a concrete jungle? If we pay close attention, when we walk on the street or wait for a bus at a bus stop, the trees above us are in full bloom. Digging into the flowers, we see bees busy collecting honey. Winter is short in Hong Kong, and so is spring. In the middle of March, we welcomed the vernal equinox, which means that spring is half over. The spring flowers on the trees were in full bloom, despite the relentless spring rain.
Among the twenty-four Chinese solar terms, the vernal equinox is when the sun is at zero degrees of the ecliptic and the sun is once again directly over the equator. The temperature in the northern half of the earth gradually warms up and the day and night become clear. This year, the vernal equinox will be next Tuesday, and Hong Kong will have continuous spring rain. Although flowers are blooming everywhere, the wet and cold weather still makes it easy for people to catch a cold. Bring your jacket and rain gear with you until the Ching Ming Festival, so you can easily cope with the ever-changing temperature difference between day and night.
The Chinese 24 Solar Terms were inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016, and are considered to be the fifth invention of China. Learning the 24 Solar Terms helps children understand how time affects everything, how nature is ordered, and how they can cherish everything and know that there is a time for everything. The 24 solar terms also have a deep impact on the Chinese people’s pursuit of the unity of nature and humankind.
The Hong Kong Flower Show is also held every year in March, this year from March 10 to 19 at the Hong Kong Victoria Park. The theme flower this year is hydrangea. Local, mainland and overseas horticultural groups have been cultivating beautiful floral arrangements. Visit Victoria Park this Saturday to enjoy the warmth of spring and the romantic atmosphere of hydrangeas!
In Japan, the annual cherry blossom viewing season also starts at the end of March. Tourists from all over the world, especially those from Hong Kong, always take time to “return to their hometown” (meaning that Japan is a place where they feel they belong and often visit) and flock to Japan to enjoy the beautiful sea of cherry blossoms and to relieve the desire to travel that has been suppressed for three years. The cherry blossoms bloom first in southern Japan, and the wait until they reach their peak of full bloom lasts only about six days. If you want to see a sea of pink cherry blossoms, you must plan your trip in advance!

As I learned about the finite nature of human beings, I became more and more appreciative of the changing of the seasons. When I was younger, I loved to go everywhere, whether it was Europe or the United States, it was always fascinating. Today, I watch the changing seasons in Hong Kong with increasing fondness.
This lovely little city is full of friendly people, and if you pay close attention, you can see that different people have a wide variety of life situations. Especially in the field of literature and art, most people have more freedom to create, and there are both gains and losses. I still have the opportunity to collaborate with artists from different countries, so I can put into practice what I have learned. I am grateful for these opportunities, and at the same time, I accept the changing seasons of life.
