A friend is a special kind of status. Perhaps we feel that a lifelong partner or family member is more important than a friend.

However, we have been hurt by our friends and have been in emotional lows. If friends are not important, why would they hurt us so much?

Friendship is not something that can be counted over time. It is not something that can be made after knowing each other for a long time. It is only when we have opened our hearts to each other, when we are willing to see each other’s wounds, and when we have exchanged emotions that we become friends. For me, the kind of friend who can joke around, share common interests and say things openly so that I can feel comfortable being my own friend is called a best friend.

The International Day of the Dead is celebrated on 8 June every year, which makes me think about how to cherish my friends who are best friends.

Relationships between men and women are very important to me and take up a lot of my time and effort. Most of my female friends are my confidantes, they listen to my sufferings in relationships and I become a listener in the tree for them to listen to their own sufferings. Relationships are so natural and unforced. We mostly met on campus, in an environment where we had no interests at stake.

I think of a girl friend, we know each other for more than 10 years. We once traveled to Europe together. We were staying with a family in Germany and we returned the keys to our hosts and were ready to leave. She accidentally left her luggage in the room and the owner went to work and no one opened the door to retrieve it for us. At that time, we had to catch a train to Italy. She advised me to go to Italy first and not to wait for her. However, I couldn’t bear to leave her behind.

Finally, we came up with a good idea. We went to Italy together and asked our landlord to send our luggage (including clothes but no valuables) to my school dorm in Germany, and I told my roommate to pick it up. After settling the situation, we got on the train safely and happily. We even bought a bottle of wine to celebrate! The rest of the trip included a 10-hour cruise to Greece, and that night we slept with newspapers over our bodies like two people sleeping on the street! We had a “great” night there!

I am very grateful to my friend who came all the way to Europe to accompany me. It was also during this trip that I completed a series of photographs of the Greek Mediterranean as my graduation project from my art studies in Germany. Thanks to her, my trip was not lonely, but full of laughter and surprises!
